How do you go about getting antidepressants

I am sure there r several ways to get anti-depressants, but here r some that I know of.

1.) You can go to ur GP, who will ask u questions, & assess if u r depressed or not. If they r not really sure, or u just need them for a few months to get back on ur feet, such as after a loved ones death, they will give u a script, & u will go on ur way.

2.) You can go to ur GP, & have them refer u to either a psychologist, psychiatrist, or therapist. Chances r that these people will not give u a prescription right away but will take several sessions to get to know more about what is troubling u before doing so.

3.) Land yourself in a psych ward. They almost always send u home with anti-depressants. Granted, u r there for several days, & they r watching ur mood, & will likely start u on them there, & suggest that u do an outpatient program to further manage ur medications. While u r there they will also set u up with a psychiatrist in ur area to manage them after u re-enter the ''real world''

4.) Buy them online. BAD idea. These r generally laced with other medications & r much more expensive. After all, who knows what r really in them.

My Lexapro (I take 25 mg) costs about $40 each refill & I need a refill each month. However, there r thousands of anti-depressants some more or less expensive than that. I know of one woman who is spending literally $1,500 a month on all of her medications.
Hope this gave u some idea of ways to get them.

Just make an appt with a psychiatrist. Generally you do not need a referral from a gp. They are the experts. you will discuss therapy. For the best results, usually you need both. Cost varies depending on where you live and the doctor.

How do you go about getting antidepressants

I got antidepressants by going to my usual doctor. I made an appointment & explained what was going on. The doctor might ask u a few questions first, to determine if u r really depressed or if it is something else.

I did not have to go to therapy at all actually. But I will warn u though, ask ur doctor for the medication is side effects. I found out the one is I was taking actually have, ''thoughts of suicide or depression'' as side effects. Though these side effects only lasted for the first few days--do not chance it. Good luck!
